Nuclear fusion mission: expert commission begins work
On 1 May 2024, Science Minister Markus Blume and Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger announced the members of the newly established expert commission for the promotion of nuclear fusion. Dr Antonia Schmalz, physicist, co-initiator and technical managing director of Pulsed Light Technologies, who is considered an important part of the initiative, was also appointed to the commission. Prof Dr Robert Schlögl, President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, will chair the commission.
The commission is made up of 18 leading scientists and industry representatives and is a think tank for research and innovation on nuclear fusion and other novel nuclear technologies in Bavaria.
Expertise from science and industry is to be equally weighted in the committee. The main tasks of the commission are to intensify training at Bavarian universities and non-university research institutions, to network in the Bavarian Fusion Cluster and to promote research and development of fusion-relevant expertise. The commission will also regularly seek input from other individuals and organisations, including relevant start-ups and industrial companies.
